What’s it all about?
Handmade baskets are a beautiful addition to your home and can make wonderful personalised gifts.
Colourful coiling is a great way to learn the basics of making traditional baskets using recycled fabric, wool, raffia and trims. This fun, hands on workshop will provide you with all the materials to make your own masterpiece as well as the skills to take home and practise.
What will we do?
In this workshop we will explore the various materials that can be used when making baskets as well as where you can find them.
From here you will learn the basics to start a simple bowl shaped basket. Using needles, raffia, fabric and trims we will get you on your way to making your own basket.
Who will be teaching?
Vicki Fowler is a retired banker with a lifelong passion for craft. Several years ago she travelled to Alice Springs where she was taught to weave/coil by Nancy (a Tjanpi Desert Weaver). She has since experimented with colour and tension to develop her own style of coiling baskets.
A member of Basket Makers of Victoria, she is passionate about helping others learn the craft to create their very own basket.
